LUCAS BERGVALL has performed a big U-turn by signing a bumper new deal with Spurs – just months after telling the club he was open to leaving.
The Swedish star, 20, was worried back then about his development and opportunities in his favoured No8 position, especially after Spurs splashed £185million on midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

Bergvall also was left frustrated at the lack of communication about his career path from the club.
But a productive chat with boss Roberto De Zerbi over pre-season put his mind at rest and now Bergvall has committed his future with fresh terms.
Spurs never wanted to lose the talented youngster and rejected bids from Newcastle and Nottingham Forest over the summer.
Chelsea were also given short shrift when showing late interest in the window too.

The 14-cap Sweden international said: “I think we’re building something great here. It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.
“I’m always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.
“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”
Europa League winner Bergvall has 80 appearances for Spurs and started the first game of the season at Brentford.

It showed how much he remains in De Zerbi’s plans, although the Swede was replaced at half-time after losing the ball for the Bees’ second goal in the 3-0 defeat.
Bergvall follows the likes of Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Antonin Kinsky in signing new deals in the last few months.
Boss De Zerbi added: “Every day in training you can see Lucas’ desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level.
“Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments. He also understands that development is a process and he has shown a fantastic attitude towards working on the areas of his game where he can become even better.
