THE AA has revealed the 50 cheapest spots to buy petrol across the UK as fuel costs continue to rise.

The motoring agency has urged drivers to compare prices before heading out to fill up.

Data released by the AA reveals that petrol and diesel prices across the UK are continuing to climb, with motorists now forking out around 166.2p per litre on average each time they fill up their vehicle.

Drivers using diesel will see the cost jumps up to 187.7p per litre during a trip to the pumps.

The last time the cost of petrol was at the price was back in October 2022

These numbers have jumped since May, when The Sun reported that it cost around 159.43p per litre to fill your tank with petrol.

Ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to impact global oil prices, meaning drivers in the UK are seeing prices rise once again at petrol stations.

When it comes to the cheapest petrol prices, Northern Ireland takes the top spot.

However, data collected on Tuesday, September 8, revealed that around 380 petrol stations in England, Wales and Scotland were offering petrol prices at least 6p lower than the UK average.

For drivers, this can lead to a potential saving of £3.30 a tank which quickly adds up.

“Once again, with petrol wholesale costs shooting up to their highest since the Ukraine war, we can see average pump prices wasting no time in reflecting that,” says Luke Bosdet, the AA’s spokesman on pump prices.

“However, what also irritates drivers in England, Scotland and Wales is the persistent 6p gap between what they pay on average for fuel and the cheaper petrol and diesel in Northern Ireland.

“AA analysis of yesterday’s prices registered with Fuel Finder shows that, in fact, hundreds of fuel stations on the mainland manage to retail fuel at prices on a par with  Northern Ireland.

“The trouble is, as the CMA reported, the vast majority choose to over-price petrol and diesel at the expense of commuters, families and businesses.”

Now, motorists are being urged to plan ahead when filling up their cars, with experts advising the use of fuel comparison sites, like the Governments Fuel Finder resource, to locate the cheapest fuel spots in the area.

Drivers can also use The Sun’s exclusive online tool that shows you the best priced forecourts found in your area.
