A status yellow warning for rain has been issued for Cork and Kerry on Saturday, with Met Éireann saying persistent heavy rain is expected.
It will come into effect at 9am and remain in place until 9pm.
Met Éireann is warning of difficult travel conditions and localised flooding, while outdoor events are also expected to be affected.
Separately, a rain warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo has been issued as the national forecaster says heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible.
The warning will come into effect at 9pm on Friday and remain in place until 9am on Saturday.
Meanwhile, sunny spells and dry weather will dominate Friday, with temperatures of up to 20C.
Similar conditions will dominate the evening as well, with some outbreaks of rain and drizzle also developing. It will become much more persistent and heavier in the west and north towards the morning. Highs of 10C to 15C are expected.
Saturday will then be wet and cloudy with outbreaks of rain, turning heavy and persistent at times. Highs of 16C to 18C are expected.
Any lingering rain in the south will clear early in the night, leaving a mostly dry night with a mix of cloud and clear spells.
Traffic
Road closures continue on Friday morning on Gaol Walk and College Road, with traffic also building up in the area. Local diversions are in place locally.
On the N28, traffic has started to build up by Rochestown as well.
Outlook
Sunday will then stay dry for many, with just a few light showers. Some sunny spells will break through at times, with highs of 16C to 21C expected.
It will continue to stay dry on Sunday night with a mix of cloud and clear spells, before outbreaks of rain come into Atlantic coastal areas towards morning.
Looking into next week, current indications suggest that it will be wet and breezy with widespread rain, turning heavy and persistent at times. It will start to clear eastwards through the afternoon, with sunny spells and showers following. Highs of 17C to 21C are in store.
Tuesday then will be fresh and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers. These will mainly affect the west and north of the country. It will, however, be cooler than previous days, with highs of 14C to 18C.
