Gianluigi Donnarumma was hit, bound and threatened with a knife during a break-in when he lived in Paris.

The Manchester City player and his then-girlfriend, now wife, Alessia Elefante, who was pregnant at the time, were woken up by robbers who broke into their flat on Avenue Montaigne in the French capital.

Details of the robbery in 2023 have come out during a two-day hearing at a criminal court in Paris. Donnarumma’s witness statement said he was hit in the face with a knuckle duster and threatened with a knife.

High-value watches, jewellery and handbags, as well as cash and the keys to a Mercedes and a Lamborghini, were stolen during the incident, which took place while the 6ft 5in goalkeeper was at Paris St-Germain.

Elefante, 29, said she was pressured to reveal the code for the safe, but said she did not know it and that it was empty.

“They got angry thinking that I was lying,” she told investigators. “They pulled me by the hair and one of them hit me on the thighs. I said I was pregnant but they continued.”

Donnarumma, 27, did give them the code but, as Elefante had said, it was empty.

According to police, the four robbers accessed the flat using a ladder to reach the roof, climbed down onto a balcony and then broke in through windows.

Police believe that the robbery was organised from prison by Ilyas Kherbouch and Khyan Mamouni. They both deny the charges.

Kherbouch, who escaped from prison earlier this year before being recaptured after 13 days on the run, threatened police officers on the opening day of the trial when they ordered his brother, who was present amid the public, to leave court.

“Come here, you,” he said. “What are you going to do?”

When a judge warned that he could also be expelled from the courtroom, he said: “I couldn’t care less. I don’t want to be present at the trial. I don’t give a s—.”

Two of the robbers were under 18 at the time and were given jail sentences at a children’s court of three and four years. Another suspect took his own life while in prison in 2024; he had admitted to taking part but said he had been under pressure from his accomplices.

Moktar Diop has admitted to being involved but is not accused of any violence.
