On a challenging first day, it’s been a really steady back nine from 2009 winner Shane Lowry and only leader Joaquin Niemann has carded a lower score.

It’s been a particularly long day of golf for all involved and the defending champion is heading for the clubhouse four shots off the lead as his birdie putt on 18 goes left.
McIlroy will be kicking himself about the double-bogey on 13, but he’s done enough to remain within touching distance.

It’ll be a dropped shot on the par-4 18th after a mistake, but Tom McKibbin will no doubt be extremely proud of his two-under 68.

After a fabulous tee shot on the par-3 14th, Shane Lowry has a great chance to take his first-round birdie count to five.
He takes it with a fine putt from 8 feet and the Offaly native is now alongside McKibbin on three under.
