A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead an investigation into the death of a man following a three-car crash in Co Meath last month.
A man, aged in his 50s, sustained critical injuries following the collision on the R132 at Smithstown in Julianstown in the early hours of Saturday 15 August.
He later died from his injuries in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda on Friday 4 September.
Gardaí last month said the man had been injured while standing at the rear of his vehicle, after being pulled in to the side of the road following a collision with another vehicle 10 minutes earlier.
A third vehicle then collided with the rear of his vehicle and he was seriously injured.
The two other drivers were uninjured, gardaí said.
In a statement this morning, gardaí said a family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the deceased, and a senior investigating officer will lead the investigation.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R132 near Smithstown, Julianstown, Co Meath between 1.30am and 2.30am on Saturday 15 August 2026, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
