Kosta’s Takeaway has permanently closed at Gasworks Plaza, just six months after it opened at the Newstead shopping centre.
The store had been operating on and off over the past month but is now “effectively closed”, a source with knowledge of the matter told this masthead on Friday.
Comments on Kosta’s Takeaway’s social media suggest the Gasworks operation began closing intermittently as far back as early August.
Kosta’s first opened in Rockdale in southern Sydney in 2021 and quickly turned heads with its elevated, generously proportioned sandwiches. More stores followed in Rosebery and the Sydney CBD.

With each successive opening, owner Benji Terkalas hired a consultant chef to create menu items specific to that store; in Brisbane it was former Anyday and Gerard’s (and now Aalia, in Sydney) chef Adam Wolfers.

The Gasworks store was the first outside of Sydney and opened to much fanfare in late February, with giveaways on sandwiches, doughnuts and coffee.
Benji Terkalas hasn’t responded to requests for comment.
