A 34-year-old British woman has been stabbed to death at a luxury hotel in Portugal, with a fellow Brit arrested on suspicion of murder.

The woman was allegedly attacked by the man multiple times at the Alfagar Alto Da Colina hotel in Albufeira on Tuesday night.

Local reports said the woman had been staying at the hotel with her partner and child, with one report claiming the attack happened in front of her child.

Emergency services were called to the popular holiday destination at around 6.45pm after reports of a stabbing.

Paramedics found the woman with multiple stab wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The resort, which overlooks the Algarve coast in southern Portugal, is described as being within walking distance of the beach.

A 34-year-old British man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, police confirmed.

Portugal’s national police force and the Polícia Judiciária, the country’s criminal investigation police, are investigating the woman’s death.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.

Meanwhile, authorities have not yet released further details about the victim or the suspect.
