A WOMAN in her 20s has allegedly been raped in an alleyway of a seaside town.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack in Weymouth town centre on Monday night and cordoned off the area.
The woman was reportedly attacked in the area of New Street and Blockhouse Lane.
The victim is being supported by officers Dorset Police said.
No arrests have been made but there will be an increased police presence in the area while enquirties continue.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police received a report at 10.46pm on Monday, August 31, that a woman aged in her 20s had been raped in New Street in Weymouth.
“Extensive enquiries are under way to establish what happened and officers have been speaking to the victim and providing support to them.
“A cordon was put in place at the scene to allow for detailed investigative work to be carried out. No arrests have been made at this time.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area. We would urge anyone with concerns to please speak with an officer.”
The area of the attack, behind the main shopping centre just off the seafront was said to be busy with people enjoying Bank Holiday Monday.
