A MUM has been charged with the murder of her 17-month old daughter after the baby was found with multiple severe wounds.

Faiza Hassan is accused of murdering her daughter while the tot’s grandmother was charged with allowing the death of a child.

Officers were called to an address on Castle Hill, Dudley, by paramedics at around 5.20pm on April 9, 2023.

The defendant’s daughter was pronounced dead later the same day.

A post-mortem examination established that she had died after suffering a number of injuries, police said.

Faiza Hassan was also charged with cruelty to the girl and another child.

Her mother, Sahra Hassan, 61, faces charges of allowing the death of the 17-month-old and cruelty to her.

The West Midlands force, which did not name the deceased child, said in a statement: “Following a thorough investigation, her mother and grandmother have now been charged with multiple offences.

“As well as murder, Faiza Hassan, of Dudley, faces eight charges of wounding with intent, between 1 November 2022 and 9 April 2023.

“She is also accused of cruelty to the girl and cruelty to another child, between the same dates.

“Faiza Hassan’s mother, Sahra Hassan, aged 61, of Walsall, is accused of allowing the death of the 17-month-old, and cruelty to her between the same dates.”

Both women appeared before the Recorder of Wolverhampton and are due to appear in court again on October 9.

Faiza was remanded in custody and Sahra was conditionally bailed.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called to an address on Castle Hill by paramedics at around 5.20pm on 9 April 2023.

“Sadly, the girl was pronounced dead later that day. A post-mortem established that she had died after suffering a number of injuries.

“Following a thorough investigation, her mother and grandmother have now been charged with multiple offences.

“As well as murder, Faiza Hassan, of Dudley, faces eight charges of wounding with intent, between 1 November 2022 and 9 April 2023.”

This comes just days after two men and two women were arrested after a three-month-old baby died in woodland while camping with her family.

Two men aged 42 and 18, and two women aged 30 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The makeshift campsite where the girl died was set up in a woodland clearing to the side of a fishing lake.

At the site there was evidence of a campfire and a lot of litter including children’s clothing, a toy car and the holdall for a two-man Halfords pop up tent.
