A Garda investigation is under way after a suspicious package was seized at Shannon Airport last month.
Gardaí responded to a report of a suspicious package at Shannon Airport on August 25 at approximately 10.30am.
News of the incident only came to light today, September 10.
It is understood that the package was addressed to US Customs.
Gardaí explained that following a preliminary examination of the scene, the package was removed to another location.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána told the Irish Independent: “Gardaí responded to a report of a suspicious package at Shannon Airport on Tuesday August 25, 2026 at approximately 10.30am.
“Following a preliminary examination of the scene, the package was contained and removed to an alternate location which would not impact airport operations.
“The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.”
Gardaí said that no further information is available at this time.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing as Donald Trump is set to arrive at the Clare airport on Saturday. He will then travel to Doonbeg, where his golf course plays host to this year’s Irish Open.
In a statement to the Irish Independent, Shannon Airport said: “As the incident being enquired about is the subject of an active investigation by An Garda Síochána, it would be inappropriate for The Shannon Airport Group to comment further at this time.”
