Culture Night – local events
On Friday, September 18 Ireland will come to life with an enormous amount of cultural activities as the country celebrates culture for one night of the year. In Wicklow the Wicklow Arts Office will be promoting and supporting events in Wicklow, including Baltinglass.
Baltinglass Golf Club: Set against the idyllic backdrop of Baltinglass Golf Club the very popular “Jazz Token” will play from 9pm – 10pm performing many well known jazz classics while providing interesting background stories to some of the more popular songs. The audience are invited to sing-along, dance and ask questions. From 10pm – 11pm the fabulous Suzanne Toomey will bring her unique style and energy to the stage. Suzanne is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter and a very popular performer with audiences of all ages. Feel free to sing-along, dance or just sit and enjoy the night.
St. Mary’s Church, Church Lane: A music concert with the Baltinglass Sings community choir as the main act with guest performances by the Flowers Of Ukraine choir and solo artist Kendal Moody.
Baltinglass Library: An art workshop for adults lasting 1.5 hours for the Baltinglass Retired Group, during which participants will create their own acrylic painting on canvas.
Two creative workshops for children, each lasting 45 minutes. During these sessions, children will work with paper, coloured pencils, and other art materials to create their own artworks.
All materials will be provided. No previous art experience is required, so everyone is welcome to take part. Each participant will take home their own handmade artwork as a special souvenir of Culture Night.
Horans Bar: from 8pm to 12.30am–Open Mic Night – Celebrating Local Talent with an evening of live music and poetry, featuring talented artists from Baltinglass and the surrounding area. Enjoy performances from a diverse mix of vocalists, musicians, and poets as they showcase original work and favourite pieces across a wide range of genres, including rock, soul, trad, pop, and jazz. Whether you’re a music lover or simply looking for a great night out, there’s something for everyone.
Fatima Hall: 5.30pm to 7pm–Lights, Drama, Action is taking to the stage for Culture Night 2026 in Fatima Hall Baltinglass. Be sure to pop by and see the talented kids give it their all.
Active Retirement
The Baltinglass & District Active Retirement are back from their summer break and have lots planned for their Autumn and Winter programme. The Friday Coffee Mornings for September will be held in Horans every Friday at 11am.
Bowling will resume on Tuesday, September 8 from 3pm – 4pm in Fatima Hall. Bridge starts up again on Wednesday, September 9 from 10.30am – 12md in the Parish Centre.
A Talk by Herbalist on the Medicinal Benefits of Herbs will take place on Thursday, September 10 in Tearmann Gardens from 10.30am – 12.30pm. A once-off Art Class by Olha will take place in the Baltinglass Library on Friday, September 18 at 6.15pm. An outing to the Shackleton Museum in Athy is planned for Thursday, September 24. Entry is €14.50. Transport to be confirmed.
At the next meeting on Wednesday, September 30 a representative from Heres Law Ireland will give a talk on the legalities of Wills, Enduring Power of Attorney and Healthcare Directives.
The Bowling Team is planning to enter the Active Retirement Ireland National Bowls Competition in Killarney from November 2– 6 . The venue is the Gleneagle Hotel and is €380 per person sharing. €490 for single accommodation. A deposit of €100 is required when booking, please. Carmel reopens furniture and interior shop
Welcome back to Carmel Kelly who has reopened the furniture and interior shop in Baltinglass opposite Quinns Superstore entrance on Mill Street. The shop will be open on Saturdays from 9.30am to 5pm and Sundays from 12.30 to 5pm. Delighted to see her back and the premises being used. We wish her luck with the business. Carmel also has a shop in Enniscorthy Marketplace.
Library events
This Wednesday, September 2 at 11.am until 12 noon the library will host the monthly Mindfulness with Fidelma Farley. All are welcome and no booking is necessary. On Friday September 4 from 7pm–9pm the community is invited to the opening of ‘Baltinglass & Beyond My Sense of Place’ exhibiting the work of eleven visual artists from West Wicklow. New Dental Practice
We welcome Hopkins Dental practice who opened their doors on Monday in Baltinglass after a lot of work getting things ready. They will be offering a full range of general dental treatments, including examinations, hygiene, fillings, crowns, implants and more. The location of Hopkins Dental is Belan street, Baltinglass, W91 PT63.
The current opening hours are Monday from 9am to 6pm, Tuesday 9am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 3pm. More hours will be available soon. They will accept both PRSI and private patients. Medical card holders will be accepted in late 2026.

Art & Design Course
Baltinglass Further Education and Training Centre will facilitate a new Art & Design Course starting in September 2026. If you are interested in drawing and painting why not join this beginner’s course.
It will run from September to May 2027 one day a week for 2.5 hours. It is QQI accredited and is free of charge.

Baltinglass and Beyond
An exhibition ‘Baltinglass and Beyond – My Sense of Place’ took place in Baltinglass Library on Friday, September 4 from 7pm to 9pm.
The Exhibition will display the works of 11 visual artists from West Wicklow: Dermot Burgess, Philip Reilly, Nicky Butler, Malu Colorin, Siobhán Madden, Shane Guerrini, Viktoria Kogutenko, Zelda Cunningham, Yvonne Higgins, Eoin O’Malley and Jens Heller.
This event is sponsored by Wicklow County Council through the Creative Places initiative funded by The Arts Council and will run until December.
Credit Union Bursary
Altura Credit Union is offering five third-level student bursaries valued at €1,000 each, with a total bursary fund of €5,000. Applicants need to be members of Altura Credit Union, or join before applying, and must live within the credit union’s area.
The bursary is open to any second-level student completing post-primary school this year who intends to pursue full-time third-level education, a course or an apprenticeship. Recipients will be selected by lottery in the presence of an independent observer. Winners will be notified by phone or post and will be invited to attend a public presentation to formally accept the award.
Applicants should ensure that active email addresses and phone numbers are supplied, as entrants may need to be contacted. The closing date is Saturday, 10 October 2026.
Country dancing in Bigstone
Limelight is booked and ready to rock (country) in Bigstone Community Hall (R93 KP89) on Saturday, September 12 from 9.30pm until late. There will be a Marquee Bar extension, a door prize and spot prizes throughout the night. Watch this space for more details.
Family Fun Day
Ballinacrow SDA Church invites everyone to a Family Fun Day with a multicultural touch on Sunday, September 13 from 1pm to 4pm at Ballinacrow SDA Church, Eircode W91 EP38. The afternoon will include a bouncy castle for children, lots of tasty food from different cultures, and opportunities to explore and celebrate cultures from around the world.

Scrap metal wanted
Stratford on Slaney Tidy Towns is looking for help to fill a skip of metal. They are hoping that the community can help by looking for any scraps of metal that you may have lying around your home. By donating your unwanted scrap metal, you’ll be helping them raise much-needed funds for Stratford Tidy Towns to continue their work around the village.
