The Traitors Ireland star Denis Ryan has told The Oliver Callan Show on RTÉ Radio 1 that he has a television series in the works.

The writer and psychotherapist from Leap, Co Cork shared the news on Wednesday’s show while he was discussing his work.

“I had a private practice for five years, and I was teaching psychotherapy as well for three years and loved it – really, really loved my job,” he told the show.

“I was focusing mostly on complex trauma, and I think there is a kind of limited timespan for that. I think I reached a stage where I realised I wanted to do more… something more for me in my life.

“Writing has always been my passion. I used to be a writer before I was a therapist, so it’s just going back to it now, which is really lovely.”

“So, what are you writing?” asked the host.

“I just got a TV series optioned, which is really exciting,” Ryan replied.

“By a production company in LA, so we are kind of strategising at the moment. Yeah, a few things in the works, which is really, really lovely.”

“Can you tell us what the TV series is about?” said Callan.

“Oh, lips sealed on that now, Oliver, I’m afraid!” said Ryan. “I’m really good at keeping secrets!”

When asked if it was a drama or a comedy, Ryan said: “It’s a comedy.”

“It’ll be based in Ireland and filmed in Ireland, hopefully,” he continued.

Ryan has also written a children’s book, inspired by a lie he told in the castle on The Traitors Ireland – one that the viewers at home did not see.

“So, in the castle, I told everyone I wrote queer-themed children’s books, and then when I left I was like, ‘Actually… there’s a market for that!'” he recounted.

“So, I have a children’s book written now, and I have a wonderful illustrator on board, so that’s ready to go.

“And [there is] another book that I wrote about kind of queer trauma or, yeah, just what it was like growing up gay in west Cork in the 90s and the psychological impact of that. How it’s impacted my life, my relationship with Diego (Caixeta, husband and fellow Traitors Ireland contestant), things like that.”

When the conversation returned to The Traitors Ireland, the murdered Faithful saluted fellow contestant Carla Geary for playing “such an incredible game” as a Traitor on the RTÉ One show.

“It’s unbelievable, just completely flying under the radar,” he enthused.

“Everyone’s just minding her in the castle! She’s just pottering about like, ‘Awwww, Carla! Sweetheart!’ And then to see her in action, what she’s secretly up to…”

Ryan added that he would love “a Faithful win”.
