A young Wicklow man, who was banned from driving, has had his driving licence restored three years early, after a court heard he now understands that “his actions have consequences”.
Charlie Lynch (21), with an address at Beechwood, Larragh, appeared at a sitting of Bray District Court seeking to have his licence restored.
Mr Lynch has two previous driving convictions for which he received a combined five-year driving ban.
Solicitor for the defendant, Brendan Maloney, informed the court that his client had served two years of the ban already.
Garda Sergeant Mick Dee told the court that the investigating officer would have objections to Mr Lynch receiving his licence back early.
Mr Maloney explained that Mr Lynch was 18 at the time of the ban and had an active insurance policy for a second vehicle.
The court heard that Mr Lynch works in the film industry, with his employer “anxious to advance him”, but unable to do so because he does not hold a valid driving licence.
However, Mr Maloney said that if the licence was reinstated, he would have five penalty points, leaving him two away from a ban.
In mitigation, the court heard that the defendant has dyspraxia and attention deficit disorder and now understands that “his actions have consequences”.
Judge Mary McAveety granted Mr Lynch’s application to have his licence restored, three years before his ban expires.
