Wexford man PJ Boxwell was ‘a true friend, a mentor and someone we could always turn to’

A spokesperson for a long-established Wexford business has paid tribute to a man whom they said was to many, “a true friend, a mentor and someone we could always turn to.”

A spokesperson for Ray Moran International Transport Ltd, said that it was with “great sadness” that they were mourning the passing Kilmore’s PJ Bowell, somebody who was “much more” than a work colleague and business partner.

“His knowledge, experience and willingness to help others made him a valued and respected person to all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him,” the company said in a statement.

“PJ had a way of making people feel welcome and at ease. He was always ready with advice, a helping hand, or a bit of humour when it was needed most. His kindness, loyalty and good nature touched the lives of so many, and the lessons he shared will stay with those he mentored for years to come.”

They added that their thoughts and prayers are particularly with his wife Colette, and children Sam and Sophie at this difficult time.

“May they find comfort in the many happy memories they shared with him and in knowing how greatly loved and respected he was by all who knew him.

“PJ leaves behind a lasting legacy through the people he helped, the friendships he made, and the lives he touched.”

Brother of Mary, Sam, Frank, Margaret, John, Catherine, Willie and the late Pat and son of the late Pat and Peggy, Mr Boxwell’s funeral took place in St. Mary’s Church, Kilmore on Sunday, followed by burial in Kilmore Cemetery.

A popular figure within his community, tributes poured in from Kilmore Quay RNLI who extended their sympathies to fellow volunteer Colette, from Kilmore United Kilmore who said that both PJ and Colette have been “such a familiar and much-loved presence around our club over the years.”

Their children, Sam and Sophie, both played with Kilmore Utd throughout the years, and PJ and Colette were always there on the sidelines. More recently, the club have been delighted to see Sophie become such an integral part of our Women’s team.

As a mark of respect, a minute’s silence was held before the club’s Men’s B team game this Sunday in memory of PJ.

Kilmore GAA also extended their sympathies.
