LUKE SHAW is set to sit out Manchester United’s Champions League opener against Sabah on Thursday.
Shaw missed United’s final training session on Wednesday morning as it was a designated recovery and rest day.
United host Manchester City on Sunday and City have two extra recovery days, having beaten Porto on Tuesday night.
Shaw, 31, was substituted in the 91st minute with United 2-1 up at Everton on Sunday before Ainsley Maitland-Niles equalised in the 95th minute.
Head coach Michael Carrick’s decision to substitute defenders was questioned by former United captain Gary Neville.
Right back Diogo Dalot also made way for centre back Leny Yoro in the latter stages at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

United missed out on a left back signing in the summer transfer window after receiving short shrift from Newcastle amid interest in Lewis Hall.
Shaw is United’s only senior out-and-out left back, with 19-year-old Harry Amass the only specialist back-up.
Amass has not played for United since May 2025 and spent last season on loan at Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.
He sustained a hamstring injury at Norwich in January and has not played since.

United were offered Arsenal left back Myles Lewis-Skelly but baulked at his asking price, which was in excess of £50million.
