Kilmore Scouts
The new Scouting year starts on Tuesday 8th September (Beavers and Cubs) and Wednesday 9th September (Scouts and Ventures) 7-8.30pm with Registration Night on Wednesday 2nd September in Tomhaggard Social Centre 7-8pm.
There are places for boys and girls in Beaver Section aged 6-8 and Venture Scouts aged 15-18 with limited places in Cubs aged 9-11 and Scouts aged 12-15. Ballycogley Players Drama Group
The cast of our full length circuit play for 2027 “Not Now Darling” by Ray Cooney & John Chapman has been announced as follows: Arnold Crouch–Sean Carthy, Gilbert Bodley–Edward Hayden, Maude Bodley–Siobhan Murphy, Miss Tippdale–Amanda Farley, Jane McMichael–Trish Boyce, Harry McMichael–Chris Maddock, Mrs Frencham–Catherine Murphy, Commander Frencham–Michael Gilbert, Sue Lawson–Amy Cassidy & Mr Lawson–Harrison Rossiter McGuire. Thanks to all those who auditioned for the play and we wish director, Fr Pat Mernagh and his cast & crew the very best over the next few months.
We are delighted to let you know that Ballycogley Players have formed a Youth Theatre and are now calling all secondary school students…unleash your creativity, collaboration and stagecraft skills at our workshops all about fun and imagination. Opportunities to learn onstage and behind the scenes techniques, all the learning will go towards staging a short performance as part of the groups autumn schedule. Rounders
Well done to the St Fintan’s under 15 Boys who have become All-Ireland Rounders Feile Champions. A fantastic achievement by these young men. It is their first time entering the competition and they’re the only team to win all their games. They won the competition with only eight players while every other team had nine players plus subs, so it makes it even more remarkable.
The boys are Sam Malone, Cian Foley, Joseph Cullen, Richard Kelly, Rory Kelly, Markuss Emmett, Corey Fortune and Luke Jordan. Huge thanks goes to their coach Michelle Malone, also to Aoife Birney and Joe Cullen. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Club Lotto
The St Fintans GAA club in association with St Mary’s Rosslare hold its fundraising lotto each Tuesday evening. Tickets for the draw cost €2 and are available from the usual seller’s or from any committee member. The jackpot now stands at €15,000. The numbers drawn were 5, 26, 29, 31. There was five lucky dip winners Elaine Begley, Gary Mc Auley, Trevor Brennan, Mary O’Leary and Ciara Murphy. We would like to thank you all for your generous support.
St Fintans GAA
Teams at both Adult and underage level with Our Lady’s Island continue to progress in the various championships. The latest adult team to perform was the junior A hurling team and it maintained its third place position when it played a draw with Buffers Alley. The intermediate football team await on a date to take on Ferns St Aidans a game that must be won to have any chance of progressing in the championship.
The u-14 football team defeated Kilrush in a quarter final game in the championship. The u-16 hurling team travelled to Tagoat where it took on Duffry Rovers on Monday last in a quarter final game. The u-18 football team took on Rosbawn Gaels in a quarter final game and also the same age group in hurling will play Ballyfad in a semifinal game in Tagoat on this Wednesday evening.
Annual Blitz
The sun shone brightly from early morning to dusk on the Saturday when the St Fintans GAA club held its annual Codd/Doyle blitz and fun day. The underage made hay “in the sunshine “ throughout the day and into the evening . The inflatables were the order of the day while the adults enjoyed the horse shoe, tug o war , live music and bar while the all day BBQ providing a tasty snack.
The club would like to say a special word of thanks to the following clubs for their support with underage teams, Shelmaliers, Kilmore, St Martins, St Anne’s, Glynn/ Barntown, Our Lady’s Island and an u-12 ladies football team from St Martins. The success of the day depended on the hard work of the club committee and those fellow club members. The club would like to say a special word of thanks to our sponsors and to all those that came along to make the day so special for the youngsters.
Bereavement
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Philomena Molloy, Orristown, Killinick who sadly died during the past week. Her remains were laid to rest in Piercestown cemetery following her funeral mass in St Martins church. May she rest in peace.
Night at the dogs
A night out for the whole family! Please save Monday 28th September for a great night out with friends and family to raise money for Mayglass National school and Bungoma Outreach. Two of our staff members are travelling to Bungoma in February 2027 and Mayglass are behind them every step of the way! Irish Dahlia Society National Show
The national show will take place on Tuesday 8th September at Ballyknockan Farm Y21 A526. Show opens to the public from 2pm to 4pm. Sale of blooms strictly at 4pm. Easily accessible from the R741 and found on Google Maps. Follow signage when reaching the site.
Split the pot
The winner on 29th August was Gerry Caffrey with a pot of €152. Congratulations Gerry. Envelopes for these draws are in local businesses. Thank you to everyone who takes part your support is much appreciated.
Bingo
Fun evenings out for all the family in Blackwater Parish Hall at 8pm every Friday for July and August and this Friday 4th September. Shop with refreshments available. Please come and have lots of fun.
