Courtown Adventure Run

Vision for Courtown and Riverchapel and Courtown Running Club are delighted to host the inaugural Courtown Adventure Run on Sunday September 13 at 10 a.m.

Participants can choose either a 5K Run or a 10K Run. The gathering and start point will be the Active Tribe car park in Courtown. Roads will remain open to traffic.

Online entry is €20 for the 5K and €25 for the 10K, including a medal. Registration will also be available on the day for an additional €5. Online registration: Search for “Courtown Adventure Run 2026 on JustRuns Entries”.

Clean Coasts Big Beach Clean

As part of Clean Coasts’ post-summer clean-up, Courtown Riverchapel Community Development Group is coordinating this year’s Big Beach Clean in the Courtown area. It takes place on Saturday September 19 from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Local groups, clubs and volunteers are invited to take part and help cover a bigger stretch of coastline this year. If you would like to get involved, please contact CRCDG at [email protected]

Blitz – Well done to all involved in the U12 Leinster Blitz Festival of Hurling that took place at the pitch on Saturday. Many thanks to all for the help and support. A cracking final game between our lad’s v Ballyragget went all the way to extra time, the lads kept their composure to grab the winning point in the dying seconds of the match. A brilliant finish to a fantastic day and a performance the boys can be proud of.

Indoor GAA nursery – Craanford Monaseed Indoor GAA Nursery takes place every Saturday morning from 9.30am to 10.30am at the Craanford Indoor Sports Complex (Y25 H2W0).

The nursery introduces children aged 3–6 years to Gaelic games in a fun, relaxed and inclusive environment, while developing the ABCs of sport — Agility, Balance and Coordination.

New members are very welcome, particularly families new to the area and children attending schools in Gorey or living in the wider Craanford parish. All equipment is provided — just bring a bottle of water and plenty of energy. For further information, contact Mick Shortall on 087 9916764.

Askamore coffee day

The 10th anniversary coffee day in Askamore community centre, in memory of Mary Walsh, takes place on Sunday 13th September from 10am to 6pm. Proceeds in aid of The Irish Heart Foundation. Special guest on the day with his ice cream van is The Big Noisy 99. Support a great cause have a coffee chat and nice treats on the day.

Used stamps for The Missions – Again a big thank you to the people in Craanford and Monaseed for their ongoing support for the Missions by putting their stamps in the boxes in the porches in both churches. A reminder to take off the stamps, leaving around 1.5cms around the stamp please, from their envelopes and put them in the box in the church porch.

Badminton

Badminton is played in KCC on Monday and Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Everybody welcome. The membership fees for this term from now until Christmas are as follows – Adult: playing twice a week €110, playing once a week €80. Students (16+) and OAP (65+): playing twice a week €90, playing once a week €70.

Unwanted visitors

There was a burglary at a house in Pallas on Friday last between 3 p.m. and 4.45 p.m. Any information to Gorey Garda Station at 053 9430690. Please stay vigilant and report anything suspicious in your area.

The winning numbers in the parish Lotto draw on 31st August were 8, 13, 14 and 24. Next draw was due to be held on 7th September in The Crosses, jackpot total of €14,700.

Kilmuckridge Ploughing

The 95th annual Ploughing Championships will take place in Screggan, Co. Offaly from Tuesday 15th to Thursday 17th September.

Kilmuckridge Ploughing Association would like to wish their club members, three generations of one family Billy, Dan and DJ, the very best of luck. This is Europe’s largest outdoor event, with upwards of 250,000 to 300,000 visitors expected.

Bingo

This weeks Charity Bingo on Thurday 8th September is in aid of The Christmas Lights, 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

Bereavement

The sympathy of the community is extended to the family of the late Michael McCreary, Littermore, who died recently. Michael was brother to the recently deceased Billy.

A Warm Parish Welcome

The people of the parish would like to warmly welcome our new priest Fr. Brian Whelan to our parish. We wish him well in his new appointment.

As Fr. Frank has moved to Annacurra Co. Wicklow, we would like to thank him sincerely for all that he has done for the parish, and wish him every happiness for the future. Masses for the coming week in Kilmuckridge will take place on Thursday and Friday at 9.30am, and Monamolin at 9.30am on Wednesday.

Household Furniture Amnesty

Wexford County Council are offering a Household Furniture Amnesty at Holmestown Recycling Centre Y35 Y28W. They will only accept four items per customer/vehicle, couches and free standing wooden furniture are acceptable from households.
