Club Lotto
The St Fintans GAA club in association with St Mary’s Rosslare hold its fundraising lotto each Tuesday evening. Tickets for the draw cost €2 and are available from the usual seller’s or from any committee member. The jackpot now stands at €15,000. The numbers drawn were 7, 9, 11, 25. There was two match three winners Sandra Furlong and Maria Morris. We would like to thank you all for your generous support.
Night at the dogs
A night out for the whole family! Please save Monday 28th September for a great night out with friends and family to raise money for Mayglass National school and Bungoma Outreach.
Two of our staff members are travelling to Bungoma in February 2027 and Mayglass are behind them every step of the way! If anyone would like to sponsor a race, sponsor a dog or place an advertisement please get in touch with Sam, Ms Walsh on 085 1196392.
Fundraiser
A very successful fundraising afternoon in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland was held in Tomhaggard community centre during the recent past. The sum of €810 was raised and the committee would like to thank you all for your support with a special word of thanks to the women’s shed group.
Bereavement
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Fr Oliver (Ollie) Sweeney the Willows Wellington bridge who sadly died during the past week. Fr Oliver stood in as cover in Ballymore/Mayglass when the need arose. His remains were laid to rest in Whitechurch Cemetery following his funeral mass in St Lawrence’s church Glynn. May he rest in peace.
A Film Star
Congratulations to local lady Kathleen Tierney who played a starring role in the screening of a short film called “Kathleen”, the film produced by Wexford GP Dr George Leslie won the best short film award at a festival in India. We look forward to seeing it when it becomes on general release and I suppose we need to make an appointment to chat with our latest star. Well done, Kathleen.
St Fintans National School
As the first full week is over for the pupils of Mayglass National School we hope that everyone is settling in well, welcome back to all students and teachers, to all our new juniors and to those that have joined the school in various classes. We hope that you all have a great year full of learning and fun.
To our class of 2026, best wishes to you all as you start your secondary school journey. We know great things are destined for this group.
Let’s hope 2026/2027 is successful for all students of Mayglass both past and present.
St Fintans GAA
It continues to be a busy time for the underage teams of OLI/St Fintans with the u-10 football team having a great workout with St Joseph’s. At championship level the u-14 hurling team reached a semi final when it defeated Bunclody while the same age group in football defeated Gusserane to reach a county final. On Monday last the u-16 football team played Monageer/Boolavogue in a semi final game while in hurling the same group of players defeated Duffry Rovers in a quarter final. In u-18 football Rosbawn Gaels proved too strong while Shelmaliers will be the opposition on this Wednesday evening. In hurling Ballyfad took them on in a semi-final. At adult level the intermediate football team suffered defeat when it took on Ferns St Aidans in the championship on a scoreline of 2-16 to 2-10.

Weekend Anniversary Mass – Anniversary masses are an important occasion for many families. Masses may be booked directly through Fr Kelly or with the Sacristans in any of the churches. It is the aim of the parish that masses will be in both Fr Kelly’s diary and the Sacristy diary of the church where the mass is to be celebrated. Anniversaries which are booked no later than Wednesday before will appear in the next weekend’s Newsletter.
Condolences
Sincere sympathy to the Gordan family, Ballymurn on the death of their beloved Majella Gordan, late of Ballymurn – may she rest in peace.
Patrons 2027
The unification of the four Parish areas has required some pastoral change. Blocking the various events together places the least strain on limited priestly resources. With a full years notice it is proposed to alter the dates for our annual Patrons slightly, the proposal being Ballymurn the 2nd Sunday of August, Screen the 3rd Sunday of August, Castlebridge 4th Sunday of August and Curracloe 1st Sunday of September.
Bingo
Bingo is played every Monday (including Bank Holidays) at Dan Nolan’s, starts 9pm all welcome.

Sad passing
Deepest sympathy to Cathy Staunton and family Carrig on Bannow on the death of her son John Staunton in the UK last week. He is survived by his mother Cathy, sisters Mary and Helen, brother Liam, Pat and Luke, his daughters Jennifer and Sharon and son Paul, grandchildren, relatives and friends.
John’s removal will take place on 17th September to Our Lady of Lourdes with requiem mass on Friday at 11am with interment afterwards at Widney Manor. May he rest in peace.
Social Dancing
Dancing continues in Carrig on Bannow Community Centre on Wednesday 9th September with music by Philip English, Wednesday 16th Colin Kenny, Wednesday 23rd Tom and Niamh Murphy and Wednesday 30th John Kenny and the all stars 4 piece band. Dancing from 9pm to 11pm–refreshments served–all welcome.

Irish Heart Foundation September Challenge: Mary O’Brien has registered for the Irish Heart Foundation 60km or miles, walking/running challenge for the month of September 2026, and she is hoping there are other people in the Wellingtonbridge/Ballymitty/ Bannow areas and environs, doing this challenge too. Ballymitty GAA club is kindly supporting this event, by allowing the use of their walking track.
Mary is hoping these 30 days may turn into the start of a walking/running group for all age groups from the area, and will encourage those of us who would like company walking, to get out there in the fresh air often, in the safe, secure, traffic-free environment of the GAA club, to join with others for fun chats, and sociable walks and runs.
Even if you’d prefer not to do the IHF challenge, but would still enjoy company walking, or running, please come along and join in. All are most welcome from 10am-11am each day.
