A Galway pub made world-famous for appearing in an Ed Sheeran music video has unveiled new décor featuring the star’s music legacy.
O’Connell’s Pub in Galway city has dedicated one of their beer garden’s ‘shop fronts’ to the English singer, who filmed at the pub for his ‘Galway girl’ music video nearly 10 years ago.
The window features a variety of Ed Sheeran memorabilia such as a guitar, photos of the artist as well as vinyl versions of his albums.
The décor, named ‘Ed’s Music Shop’, was unveiled this week as the pub shared the behind-the-scenes preparations on social media.
The post reads: “Have you seen our latest shopfront? We’re paying tribute to Ed Sheeram’s Galway Girl filmed right here in our bar nearly 10 years ago!
“A little piece of Galway music history, right on our doorstep.”
The music video was shot back in 2017 with O’Connell’s pub owner initially told it was for a Discover Ireland video.
Sheeran was behind the camera shooting the video himself as a lookalike busked on a Galway street corner – just like the star himself did when he was starting out.
At the time, he could be seen snapping selfies with a group of fans as crowds gathered outside O’Connor’s pub in Salthill for the occasion.
At the time he said: “Thank you to Galway and all the wonderful people in it for helping us shoot a music video yesterday!”
