A Wexford chef who works in a nursing home cooked up a storm and brought home a prestigious award.
The Virtue Integrated Care Master Chef Competition is an annual internal culinary tournament that celebrates excellence, nutrition, and community spirit across the group’s network of Irish nursing homes.
The winning Wexford chef was Konrad Andruczyk of Bunclody SignaCare.
Launched in 2023 by Group Executive Chef and IDDSI Facilitator Andrew Dunne, the competition begins with local rounds where residents select their favourite everyday dishes, which kitchen chefs then elevate with a creative gourmet spin.
While residents and staff vote to advance their local culinary champions, the final rounds introduce a strict clinical twist as chefs must seamlessly adapt their gourmet creations into an IDDSI Level 4 (pureed) format.
This unique constraint ensures that the meals remain medically safe for residents with swallowing difficulties while preserving the exact flavour profile, visual appeal, and dignity of the original dish.
The winner of the 2026 was chef Konrad Andruczyk of Bunclody SignaCare Virtue.
A representative on behalf of the nursing home explained how they were proud of his well-earned accomplishment.
“We are absolutely thrilled to congratulate our very own Konrad on this incredible achievement in winning the Virtue Integrated Health Care Master Chef Competition 2026! Konrad’s talent, creativity, passion and dedication shone through every step of the competition, and we wouldn’t be prouder to see him bring the trophy home to SignaCare Bunclody,” they said.
