Motorists are facing significant disruption in the Drogheda area as a result of the incident, with southbound traffic being diverted through the town.
Matthews Coach Hire has warned passengers that its services are experiencing serious delays due to the collision.
In an update to customers this morning, the company said: “Due to a serious accident on the outskirts of Drogheda on the M1 southbound the service is experiencing serious delays. All southbound traffic is going through Drogheda town.”
The diversion is expected to result in increased traffic volumes through Drogheda during the morning commute.
Gardaí have confirmed that emergency services remain in attendance at the scene.
