ACTRESS and filmmaker Georgina Lightning has died aged 63 after an “equestrian accident” at a rodeo event.
Georgina was shooting a documentary about the three-day Indian Relay event at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds in Canada, when the tragic accident unfolded.

Alberta RCMP confirmed police responded at 6:40 p.m. after she was struck by a horse that veered off course.
The animal hit Georgina while she was taking photos from a designated media area, confirmed cops and local news outlets.
Paramedics treated the 63-year-old at the scene, where she was tragically pronounced dead, according to cops.
The Enoch Cree First Nation said in a Facebook post today that Lightning died “following an incident at this evening’s Indian Relay event at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds.”

Occupational Health and Safety, the province’s workplace-safety regulator, has taken over the investigation.
Georgina starred on British comedy drama show Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
She appeared as Lainie Proudfoot in four episodes of the TV show.
Georgina was also well known for writing, directing, producing and starring in the 2008 feature Older Than America.

The show, which drew on her own school experiences, went on to win more than two dozen festival awards.
It was dedicated to her father, George De Jong, who took his own life following his experiences in the Canadian residential school system.
Her other screen credits included Johnny Greyeyes, DreamKeeper, Blackstone, Trickster, Three Pines and Alaska Daily.
Her three children are either currently or previously working actors.
They are Crystle Lightning, Cody Lightning, and William Lightning.
