A 44-year-old tennis coach has appeared in court charged with stealing more than €25,000 from Sligo Racquet Club.

Derek Boland of The Sands, Enniscrone was charged that on dates unknown between November 1, 2024 and July 10, 2025 at Sligo Racquet Club, Old Bundoran Road, Sligo, he stole €3,300 in cash, €6,900 of raffle money and €7,439 in membership fees in cash in envelopes, the property of Sligo Racquet Club.

He was also charged with stealing money from Sligo Racquet Club 11 times between the dates of June 5, 2025 and July 9, 2025. The amounts allegedly stolen range from €100 to €1,802.40.

Detective Garda Sandra Deery gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. The defendant made no reply to the charges.

Dt Garda Deery said the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented for the defendant to be sent forward on indictment to the next sittings of Sligo Circuit Criminal Court and she was willing to allow the accused go forward on a signed plea should that arise.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the case to October 15 for service of the book of evidence. She remanded Boland on continuing bail.

The defendant was ordered not to commit any offence and be of good behaviour as part of his bail conditions.
