The director of a newly-commissioned oral history project is calling for the people of New Ross to tell their stories.
Historian and author, Michael Fortune, of Foklore.ie, has recently been commissioned by Wexford County Council, having previously been approached by local councillor, John Dwyer, to undertake a collection of peoples’ stories in the town.
Mr Fortune said he’s aware that “stories, traditions and histories are strong and deeply rooted” in the town.
Between now and mid-November, Mr Fortune will be conducting 12 oral history recordings with people from New Ross who would like to share their story.
“Whatever your circumstances, your story matters,” he said.
“I would particularly like to hear from older residents of New Ross who can help paint a picture of the town as it was – customs, characters, traditions and everyday life,” Mr Fortune said.
The call for the 12 participants is also open to those who no longer live in the town.
“It’s important we record and celebrate these voices and stories, as life is moving faster than we think,” Mr Fortune concluded.
