A FAMILY are heartbroken after their pet rabbit ate rat poison from a split Amazon package and died.
Ian Bevis, 61, said the parcel came open when it was posted through his letterbox and “curious” rescue bunny Bramble went to investigate.
The painter and decorator had ordered the pellets after noticing mouse droppings at his home in Cheshunt, Herts.
Ian said: “We couldn’t have been gone for more than an hour.
“Bramble was very special. If the grandkids were playing outside, he’d run around with them.
“Rabbits are naturally curious and Bramble would always go take a look if there was something new in the house.

“Amazon is telling me I should have had him locked up — but he always had the run of the house.
“I just keep thinking, ‘What if it was a toddler?’. The pellets sort of look like sweets.”
In an email seen by The Sun, an Amazon liability adjuster denied all responsibility for the incident.
The message says: “Please confirm why you allowed your rabbits run of the house knowing the rat poison was due to be delivered that day.”

Amazon told us: “We are very sorry to hear about Mr Bevis’ pet and are in direct contact with him.”
