A BUDGET bakery chain has shut five of its stores across the country in less than a fortnight.
Its sister company announced that 19 of its 91 shops would shut last month, but the locations are yet to be disclosed.
Five of Poundbakery’s high street shops have unexpectedly closed across a number of town centres.
The discount bakery store, boasting £1.20 sausage rolls and £2 pasties, has a widespread estate across the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and Wales.
Since August 27, five stores in Sheffield, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Fleetwood, Wolverhampton and Dudley have closed, all after at least a decade on the high street.
Earlier today, the Express & Star reported that shutters had been pulled down abruptly at its Black Country branches in Wolverhampton and Dudley.

Sheffield and Newcastle-under-Lyme also both faced closures on August 27, reports the Sheffield Star and the Stoke Sentinel, with signs reading “we apologise for any inconvenience”.
Poundbakery is considered to be the largest independent retail baker in the North West of England, with 37 stores listed on its website.
The budget chain was founded back in 2010, later merging with Sayers Bakery as a single corporate entity in 2019.
