OLD Speckled Hen has launched its signature ale in a new alcohol-free format.

The new beverage is set to replace the brand’s previous low-alcohol iteration.

Old Speckled Hen is set to come to the UK in a new “Zero” format, as the first major launch by the brand since being acquired by Damm UK.

The 0.0% abv drink will soon replace the ale brand’s 0.5% version, which was introduced eight years ago, in 2018.

The product, which is said to feature the brand’s iconic “malty taste with hints of caramel and fruit”, was launched in response to growing demand from consumers for alcohol-free products.

Coming to major retailers Morrisons and Asda, a 500ml bottle is set to retail for £2 while a four- pack of cans will be priced at £5.50.

Luke White, managing director at Damm UK, said: “We know that consumer drinking behaviour is now tailored around occasions and the launch of Old Speckled Hen Zero reflects that.

“Whatever the reason for moderating, we believe that this 0.0% traditional ale is going to become a national favourite”.

The beer may also prove to be a healthier option for punters, at just 12 calories per 100ml.

Damm UK acquired Old Speckled Hen in May this year from brewing giant Greene King, along with the Old Golden Hen, Old Crafty Hen, Old Master Hen and Low Alcohol Old Speckled Hen brands.

At the time of the sale, White said that Old Speckled Hen was an “iconic British ale brand” and that the firm was “proud that Greene King has chosen Damm UK to take the brand forward into its next chapter.”

Old Speckled Hen had been brewed by Greene King for more than 25 years, after it was bought from Morland in 1999.
