Nicola King’s (Nicola Wheeler) heartbreak in Emmerdale doesn’t stop at the loss of her husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) as she learns of his double life.
Quite frankly, we are still recovering from one of Emmerdale’s most devastating episodes, that saw Jimmy breathe his last in a nasty car accident after ploughing through Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) wedding marquee. With his dying breath he told Nicola she was his one and only and revealed he’d secretly planned their vow renewal.
Their final moments together were tender and sweet, but covered a dark web of lies Jimmy had been spinning. Nicola learns the depth of his financial deception and it will have huge ramifications.
Who knew Jimmy was so good at lying?
Jimmy died after his car ploughed through Joe’s wedding marquee and took out both Joe and Dawn. Jimmy was left trapped in his car losing blood as the marquee collapsed around him.

Nicola was there as he died, watching the man she’d been married to for 22 years slip away. That was only the beginning of her hell. As Nicola starts to navigate this life alone, she starts to learn devastating truths about the man she thought she knew.
There was £5000 in the car – that’s £5000 more than Nicola knew they had, and it starts raising questions.

Nicola W reveals to Metro that the extent of the financial debt ‘becomes huge’, and Nicola learns it by accident when she starts looking for the money to pay for the funeral.
As she worries about spiralling costs, Nicola plans to sell shares in the haulage firm to pay for it. But here’s the first shocker – there is no haulage anymore, Jimmy secretly sold it.
The next shocker is that he sold it in cash to Caleb (Will Ash) for £150,000, but that money is nowhere to be found. Jimmy has left Nicola high and dry. ‘She upturns the house looking for this money and, by upturning the house, she then discovers they are in serious debt,’ Nicola W says.
Nicola goes on to learn that the house has been remortgaged, and Jimmy has welched on the repayments. ‘They’re brassic,’ Nicola W reveals. ‘She’s literally fearing they’re going to have to leave.’
Oh, but there is so much more to come, Nicola is only just scratching the surface.
‘Once she starts discovering what’s going on, the grieving process stops,’ Nicola W teases. ‘Suddenly she’s thrown into doubting her husband. She doesn’t know who he is anymore, because none of this was apparent to her, and he’s done it all behind her back and not said anything about anything being wrong….her grief very quickly turns to anger, which then turns to hatred…’
On top of all of that, Nicola has to continue running their businesses while supporting their children, with Carl in particular becoming worried that as she’s not his mum, she won’t want him anymore.
‘She has a lot of reassuring to do to the children who aren’t hers, biologically. Carl certainly becomes very worried that she might want to give him away because he’s not her son.’
Sounds like things are set to get much darker for Nicola as she delves further into Jimmy’s secret life.
‘Jimmy had a lot of secrets,’ Nicola W confirms. ‘And I think the audience are going to be mighty surprised at the life Jimmy was leading that nobody knew about.
