SOARING numbers of sex offenders are breaking orders aimed at curbing their offending.
Courts dealt with a record 2,380 for breaching a sex offender order last year, figures obtained by the Sun on Sunday revealed.
That is more than treble the 721 who broke the rules in 2017, according to the Ministry of Justice data,
Kevin Moore, a retired detective chief superintendent with Sussex Police, said: “Sadly, I am not that surprised by these rising figures.
“And you have to bear in mind these represent only those who have actually been caught breaching their orders.
“There will be many who have just not been arrested because the resources are simply not available to police these orders effectively.

“The other concerning thing is that even when caught in breach of orders not all offenders receive prison sentences.”
In one recent case, Sean Royle, 40, was jailed for a year for trying to get rid of a banned mobile phone outside a Kent police station.
A government spokesperson said: Sexual violence and abuse is abhorrent. We are deploying the full power of the state to halve violence against women and girls, and have invested record funding to tackle child sexual assault.
“The police have robust measures that they can use to protect the public from sexual harm, including the notification requirements, sexual harm prevention orders and sexual risk orders.”
