Paris Jackson has recalled some of her favourite childhood memories in Ireland, describing the time she spent here with her brothers and father Michael Jackson as “magical”.
Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music about her new music, Jackson said: “Some of my favourite memories as a kid were in Ireland with my brothers and my dad.”
She said she was around eight at the time and remembered the family going on “little adventures” from the cottage where they were staying.
“We’d walk through this, like, haunted woods, and there were just giant mushrooms and ferns, and everything was dewy,” she said.
“It was just such a magical part of my childhood.”
Jackson also remembered exploring the house with her brothers and finding a vintage case in the attic containing antique bagpipes.
She said Ireland was “probably my favourite place that I ever lived as a kid, with some of the best memories”.
The Jackson family spent several months in Ireland in 2006, including time at Grouse Lodge recording studios in Co Westmeath, where Michael Jackson worked on new music while living there with Paris and her brothers Prince and Bigi.
Those memories also found their way into Paris Jackson’s own music.
Discussing her new song The Breeze, she explained that bagpipes were incorporated into the track, initially using a bagpipe app on her phone before a musician later recorded the real instrument.
The Breeze was released alongside Just Me and You on 29 August, which would have been Michael Jackson’s 68th birthday.
Jackson told Lowe that her brothers had heard the finished music and given it their approval.
“I got the blessing,” she said. “Which felt really nice.”
