Just when you thought Tim and Sally Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) fostering journey in Coronation Street couldn’t have any more nasty surprises.
The big-hearted Corrie couple have welcomed many kids from troubled homes into No. 4 may have bitten off more than they can chew withLucy (Anya Dewin).
The troubled teen is the daughter of Tim’s cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex) who killed her mum, Rachel, during a heated row gone horribly wrong. Unfortunately, Lucy witnessed this shocking scene.
Needless to say, the poor girl’s been deeply traumatised ever since. Despite Tim’s best attempts to connect with his first cousin once removed, Lucy harshly rejected him at first, screaming in Tim’s face that she knows he and Sally don’t truly care about her.
This only got worse when Tim guiltily revealed that he was the one who convinced Richie to go home to Rachel that fateful night, which enraged Lucy. She blamed Tim for Rachel’s death.
This is because Lucy has bought into the narrative that Richie spun Tim in the prison visiting room – that Rachel was violent, and her death was a direct result of Richie trying to defend himself.
This certainly explains why the red mist so quickly descends on Lucy whenever she feels that someone is attacking her dad, like how she kicked off when Joanie (Savanna Pennington) brought up how both their parents were in prison, or how she lashed out at Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft Gardner) during their first meeting.
However, what may seem like loyalty to her dad may be something far more sinister.
Recently, Lucy was finally allowed to speak to her dad in prison via phonecall.He promised her that everything would be fine, as long as she ‘sticks to the story’.
This suggests that Richie’s ‘self defence’ story was a total lie.What if he killed his wife and is manipulated his little girl into hiding the truth about what really happened?
That certainly seems to be the case in this week’s upcoming trip to the Cobbles, when Lucy makes a revelation about her hum that leaves Tim reeling.
With Rachel’s funeral coming up, Tim’s knocked for six when Lucy announces that she doesn’t want to attend.
It seems Lucy is standing behind her dad no matter what. Will Tim convince her to say goodbye to her mum?
