COPS have launched an investigation after the “unexplained death” of a child close to a fishing lake.
The youngster was found after emergency services were called to reports of a child in cardiac arrest.
Police and an air ambulance rushed to woodland near Strawberry Lane in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, at around 8.45am today.
Despite desperate efforts by paramedics, the child was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Staffordshire Police said the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
The force has not confirmed the child’s age or released any further details.

Officers were called by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who had been responding to the cardiac arrest report.
Midlands Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene as emergency crews raced to save the child.
But tragically, the youngster could not be saved.
Roads around the area were closed throughout the day as detectives began piecing together what had happened.

Police were expected to remain at the scene into the evening as their investigation continued.
The circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain unclear.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called to land off Strawberry Lane, Great Wyrley, at 8.45am today (Saturday 5 September) by colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who were responding to a report of a child in cardiac arrest.
“Officers attended alongside Midlands Air Ambulance.
“Sadly, the child was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained.
“Officers remain at the scene.”
