Nico O’Reilly has missed Manchester City’s Premier League match against Coventry City after suffering an injury during the warm-up.

The 21-year-old was named in Enzo Maresca’s starting line-up for City’s game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

However, O’Reilly pulled up during the warm-up with a back injury and after speaking with the club’s medical staff he went down the tunnel before his teammates.

O’Reilly was then replaced in City’s starting line-up by their new £125 million signing Enzo Fernandez.

Maresca, meanwhile, has also handed a start to Iliman Ndiaye, who joined City in a £65m deal from Everton on September 1.

Ayyoub Bouaddi, who made his debut in the 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend, is also on the bench for City.

O’Reilly’s injury will come as a concern for City as they play Porto in their first Champions League league phase game on Tuesday.

City have made the perfect start to the season under Maresca with wins over Bournemouth and Palace.

Speaking ahead of his side’s game against Coventry, Maresca highlighted the importance of City’s new midfield signings.

‘For Elliot, Enzo and Ayyoub [coming in] it’s because we knew that we need to change something,’Maresca said.

“They are quite young and full of energy. [How we use them] It depends a little bit on the gameplan we have.

‘But there are no doubts that these three are going to be main players for us.’
