A BRITISH boy has died in hospital after being pulled unconscious from a pool in Lanzarote.

The five-year-old was airlifted to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Thursday afternoon.

Medics and a hotel lifeguard desperately tried to rescucitate the youngster – and managed to restore his pulse at the scene.

The child was then flown by air ambulance to the Materno University Hospital on the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria.

He was placed in intensive care – before passing away in hospital, it was revealed last night.

It is not immediately clear when the child died.

Emergency services raced to reports of a boy in critical condition at around 1pm on Thursday at an unamed hotel at the Playa Blanca resort.

The young boy was pulled out of the pool “showing signs of drowning” according to the Canary Islands emergency response team.

Police have launched a probe into the child’s death.

It comes as a four-year-old girl from the UK drowned on June 20 in a hotel swimming pool in the same Lanzarote resort of Playa Blanca.
