Man City vs Coventry City preview
It’s the first time these two have met in any competition since Man City were managed by the late Kevin Keegan when winning 4-2 in 2002.
And the last time they met in the top flight was in 2001 and both sides were relegated that year. An omen…?
Man City have two wins from two to start the campaign and welcome new boys Coventry to the Etihad on Saturday – who are two defeats from two.
City were excellent in dismantling Crystal Palace away from home last week, with Rayan Cherki stealing the show despite Erling Haaland’s double.
And they’re fancied to put on a show again here having won 27 and drawn three of the last 30 Premier League games in which they’ve faced newly promoted sides.
Not just that but the stats are stacked against Frank Lampard’s side going into the game.
Lampard himself has only won one of his last 19 Premier League games, coming as Chelsea caretaker boss in 2023.
Defeats to Arsenal (3-0) and disappointingly to Hull (1-0) to start the season and in just four occasions in their history have they lost the opening three games of a league season.
They’ve also never in their history failed to score in their three first league games of a campaign….
