Permission has been granted to convert a vacant first-floor restaurant into residential apartments in Killarney town.
Kerry County Council has given the green light to alter the first floor of The Granary on Beech Road into four residential units.
The three-storey building looking out over the Beech Road car park has a vacant public house on the ground floor and a vacant restaurant on the first floor.
There are currently already two apartments on the second floor.
The four apartments will consist of two two-bed units and two one-bed units.
Minor elevational alterations will take place at first floor level as well as minor internal alterations at ground floor level to accommodate the works.
The plans received one submission that objected to the development on the grounds that there was a restaurant below and that this would be contrary to “proper planning and sustainable development”.
The planning has been granted subject to seven conditions, including that no part of the proposed apartments shall be used for the provision of overnight commercial guest accommodation.
