Police initially monitoring the property in the Nova Palma district of Gongogi, where they noticed the woman rarely left the property.

Her imprisonment allegedly became unbearable when she was no longer allowed to go outside at all.

Ribeiro dos Santos was arrested on September 2 after police obtained a search and seizure warrant to enter the residence.

Upon entry, officers were able to confirm and verify the mother’s claims of torture and captivity.

The victim received immediate medical attention after being removed from the violent situation.

Gongogi police petitioned the court to hold Ribeiro dos Santos in preventive detention pending trial.

His detention was changed to pre-trial custody following a hearing in nearby Ubaitaba on September 3.

He is expected to be transferred to Itabuna prison next week.

Officials said: “Because this involves a possible victim of violence and a child, the case requires caution, confidentiality and protection for those involved.

“The relevant municipal departments are available to the police and protection agencies to assist with the investigation and provide the necessary support to the family.”
