Coronation Street have confirmed where show stalwart David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is, and that his absence won’t be a prolonged one.
Actor Jack has been taking a break from the show after undergoing a third hair transplant, with the procedure coinciding with his paternity leave after he welcomed his first child with wife, Hanni Treweek.
His daughter, Constance, was born at the end of June, with Jack and Hanni announcing the news via an Instagram post, the caption reading: ‘Our beautiful baby girl has arrived, born peacefully at home, surrounded by love’.
After he popped the question as the two undertook a safari, Jack and Hanni got married last July in a beautiful ceremony, announcing their pregnancy the following February.
Jack previously spoke about his decision to undergo another hair transplant on his podcast, On The Sofa, and the handy timing of it.
‘I could see it, I could see it further back in the middle. I could see it going in,’ he began. ‘So it was sort of act now while I could and I had a bit of time off for the baby, so it was perfect.’
‘Paternity and hair transplant,’ teased co-host, Colson Smith.
‘Exactly that,’ Jack replied. ‘What a month!’
Where is David Platt in Corrie?
David is visiting his mum Gail Platt (Helen Worth), who left the cobbles with her new husband, Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) in 2024.
His wife, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), is struggling in his absence, dealing with both Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) and baby Harper.
She vented her frustrations to her deeply devious sister Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown), with a phone call between Shona and David later in the episode showing her telling him how tired she is after being left to juggle everything by herself.
When will David be back?
For those missing David, fear not – he’ll be back on screens next week, with his return airing on Wednesday, September 9.
Shona’s deeply struggled in his absence, made worse by the manipulation of Jodie, who’s seemingly relished in the mind games she’s been playing on her sister.
Cruelly twisting situations to ensure Shona feels incapable of successfully parenting baby Harper, Jodie has stood back and actually smiled as her sister has crumbled.
Next week, as Shona continues to struggle in the lead up to his return, both she and Jodie are taken aback by the return of their dad, Doug Ramsey (Steve Evets), who’s clearly painfully aware of the true evil that Jodie is capable of.
As Jodie eyes Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) as her new victim, she drags her attention from making Shona’s life an abject misery to torture Bethany instead.
Shona continues to bear the bruises of Jodie’s wicked game however, and when David returns home, she’s deeply paranoid that he doesn’t trust her to be around the children.
Jack was recently seen alongside the majority of the Platt family, preparing to film the murder trial of his on-screen sister Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), who’s facing a long stretch behind bars after bumping off vile abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).
Between Sarah’s trial, the re-emergence of Shona and Jodie’s dad and Shona’s worsening mental state as a result of Jodie’s cruel games, it looks like David’s feet will be immediately held to the fire as the Platt clan looks to be on the verge of total collapse.
