A mother has paid tribute to a four-year-old boy as her “pride and joy” after he was killed when the off-road motorbike he was a passenger on collided with a car.
Nottinghamshire Police said Robert Henry Steele was pronounced dead at the scene in Churchill Drive in Newark on Sunday evening.
Brian Cameron, 32, of Chatsworth Road, Newark, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and causing death by driving while uninsured and unlicensed.
A 24-year-old man, who was riding on the same bike as the boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.
Robert Henry’s mother, Tilly Robinson, said in a statement released by police on Friday that her “beautiful boy was tragically taken from us”.
She said: “Robert Henry was my pride and joy and my heart will be forever broken.
“Myself, his little brother, Ronny-Boy, and all our family will never forget Robert Henry and we will make sure his memory lives on in all that we do.
“He may have only had four precious years with us but he was such a big character, full of love, big smiles and cheeky charm.
“We would like to thank all the emergency services and members of the public present at the scene who helped my boy, Robert Henry.”
Police said the bike was travelling in convoy with a second bike, whose rider left the scene before officers arrived.
Cameron appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and will appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 30 September, the force said.
