MIDO knows a good Egyptian player when he sees one.

And in Omar Marmoush, the ex-Spurs striker reckons his old club have landed the “scary” forward they have been crying out for.

Compatriot Marmoush joined Tottenham on a season-long loan from Manchester City last month, with an obligation to buy next summer for £60million.

Mido is thrilled his former side have landed the 27-year-old – but told boss Roberto De Zerbi that the attacker is best used at No10 or as a winger, rather than centre-forward.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport, former striker Mido said: “Omar is exactly the type of player Tottenham needs.

“Hungry, brave, has a great knowledge of the game, used to the pressure and knows how to use it as a weapon.

Richarlison axed by Spurs after bombshell statement and failed Everton return

“He knows how to score goals and has already proved that.

“His timing when running in behind defenders is scary if he gets the right passes.

“His best position is a No10 and a left-winger. He is not great playing with his back to the goal. I’m sure the manager realised that.”

De Zerbi was asked last week where he saw Marmoush’s best role and he suggested centre-forward or No10, rather than out wide.

Marmoush made his debut up top in last week’s disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle, and could be deployed up there again on Saturday against Nottingham Forest.

With Richarlison’s future in severe doubt, amid interest from Turkey, the likelihood is Marmoush will be used as a central striker on a regular basis.

Regardless, Mido is just delighted Spurs have signed him – two years on from recommending Marmoush to the North Londoners.

Mido begged his old club in April 2024 to go for Marmoush when he was still at Eintracht Frankfurt, believing the forward to be the ideal fit for the system of then-boss Ange Postecoglou.

The ex-striker, who scored 19 goals in 61 appearances for Spurs between 2004 and 2007, wrote on X: “Years ago I advised Spurs to sign Salah when he was still at Basil, they never listened to me… now I’m telling you plz go for Marmoush he will be a great signing, will fit in perfectly in Ange Postecoglou’s system as a left of right winger… hard worker, top professional and can score goals… pls Levy sign Marmoush from Frankfurt.”

Asked about his recommendation two years on, Mido said: “When I see a top Egyptian player, I always think about Tottenham.

“It was the case with Salah years ago when he was still at Basel and the same with Marmoush when he was in Germany.

“I love the club and I always want to help Tottenham. Of course when I see a top player that can do well at Tottenham, I always say it.

“Omar has the potential to be one of the best players in Egyptian football history.”

Marmoush was one of TEN arrivals at Spurs over the summer, including deadline-day captures Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Including the £60m Spurs will pay City for Marmoush, they spent close to £400m, though they did rake in a pretty penny in sales too.

Ex-Middlesbrough man Mido added: “I think it’s been a great transfer market for the club and we have a great manager now. We only need to believe in ourselves and start winning some games!
