The life Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) knew was torn apart after suffering a single stroke. The consequences of another one don’t bear thinking about.

Betsy had everything. A talent a fashion, an opportunity to study in London, a loved up boyfriend in Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne). The whole package.

Then one day, she collapsed at home and was rushed into hospital. There it was discovered that Betsy had experienced a stroke, caused by a blood clot resulting from neck artery damage.

This tragic turn of events came about due to one decision Betsy made in the moment, when she and Dylan decided to experiment with consensual strangulation during sex.

Over night, Betsy lost the ability to speak clearly, and her mobility was severely affected. In essence, she lost her independence, and was forced to rely on her mums  Carla and Lisa Connor-Swain (Alison King and Vicky Myers) for round-the-clock-care, as well as support from her best mate Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton)

Since the stroke, college is off the table for Betsy. Fortunately, upcoming scenes of Coronation Street will see Carla refuse to let Betsy give up on her catwalk dreams, organising some fashion work experience for her step daughter.

Sally Metcalf (Sally Dynevor) even shows Carla a website for a fashion course at a local college which might suit Betsy. Touched, Carla vows to look into it.

This goes down a storm with Betsy when Carla agrees to help herwith her application for the fashion course. Lisa’s pleased to see Betsy so energised.

However, soapland just wouldn’t be soapland if things didn’t take an unexpected turn for the worse.

Betsy’s delighted when Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) drops by to give her a manicure to cheer her up, all thanks to Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).

Suddenly Betsy clutches her head in pain, fearing she’s having a stroke.

Just when we thought that things couldn’t get any worse…
