The museum’s virtual workshops on natural-history themes are offered free to schools across Canada thanks to support from donors and partners. They have proven to be popular, as museum educators delivered 503 virtual workshops during the 2025-26 school year, reaching over 10,000 students from all provinces and territories.

“Each of the workshops uses real specimens, videos, multimedia and guided activities by one of our science educators to provide an enriching experience on the theme being presented,” says Melanie Hall, the museum’s Vice-President of Experience and Engagement. The new Freshwater Systems Workshop, developed in partnership with AquaAction, will engage students to reflect about why fresh water matters, how pollution affects water quality and ecosystems, and how individuals, including themselves, can help protect this vital resource.

This new workshop expands the museum’s roster of virtual workshop themes, which include rocks and minerals, coastal sea life, and Arctic ecosystems. Each workshop is designed to meet curriculum objectives for specific grade levels in each province and territory.

- Bursaries are available for equity-seeking schools for admission of facilitated school experiences on-site at the museum.
